As midnight strikes on Hogmanay, a dark-haired stranger appears at the door of a secluded mansion in the Scottish Borders.
Welcomed in by a confused occupant, instead of using the gifts of First Foot - a Scottish New Year’s tradition to welcome in good luck to the house -the stranger instead brings terror to its residents until secrets are revealed and punishment is dealt.
As the night progresses, those dark secrets lead to deadly confessions, unlikely allegiances and an explosive ending which heralds in the dawn of a New Year.
